Ficlet: Encounter at the market!

The market was colorful, lively and fun. Lyana inhaled deeply to breath in the delicious smells of fruit and recently baked bread, and marveled at every shop, every yelled offer and every pokemon helping around.

That was why she didn’t see the boy coming until she crashed into him. Both of them fell to the ground, wicker baskets knocking over and fruit rolling everywhere. And worst of all, her poor Oddish also rolled away!

“Oh, no, I’m so sorry!” she apologized and rushed to sit up and put everything inside the basket again.

“That’s okay,” the boy said. He barely had time to stand up before Lyana handed him his basket, which he accepted. “Thank you.”

“No problem, bye!” she said, grabbing her own basket and leaving.

Once the boy was out of sight she sighed. How embarrassing! At least none of them hurt themselves. But what about Oddish? She opened the basket and grabbed the little grass pokemon.

“Are you okay? Why do I never pay attention?” she asked her friend.

Oddish tilted her head and Layla blinked. Something was not right. Oddish didn’t seem like herself…

Suddenly Oddish changed and turned into a pink blob. It was a Ditto!

“Oh no, where’s my Oddish!?” she let out.

“Wait!” someone said from behind her. She turned around to face the boy from before. “That’s my Ditto. She’s kind of a prankster… come here, Ditto!”

The normal pokemon jumped to her trainer's hands, happily smiling. The boy handed Lyana his basket and she saw that her Oddish was there, thank Arceus!

“Oddish, I’m so sorry!” she hugged her pokemon tight, maybe too tight. “I never would abandon you!”

After some tears and a lot of thanks from her, the boy said goodbye and she continued her journey. She was left speechless when, the next day, she went to challenge the gym leader and found that he was the very same boy. How embarrassing! Why did those things always happen to her?

The scene setting at the start is wonderful. I love how you included all the sounds and smells at the market, and that little detail about Pokemon helping all around Lyana really brought this to life for me. I'm so curious now which Pokemon would work at which stalls.

The encounter crashing into the mysterious boy is so well done. I felt Lyana's embarrassment and awkwardness and was worried for Oddish immediately. I love how she knew as soon as Oddish looked at her that she wasn't right! And that it was the boy's Ditto and she's a prankster? That's so cute.

Only to then... come face to face with the boy again in the gym! :O Love the ending. I believe in Lyana to defeat him though, hehe.

Honestly now I want to expand on a market where pokemon and humans work and shop together, sounds like a great place.
